Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 17 in the Liga MB took place in Cojutepeque. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of higher ranked Fantasmas (5-8) to tenth ranked Cojute (3-11) 76-75 on Tuesday evening. American guard Jordon Myers (201-1998) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import swingman Andravious Smith (196-1995, college: Tougaloo) chipped in 21 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Cojute's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Henry Sherrod responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Cojute maintains tenth place with 3-11 record. Fantasmas at the other side keep the sixth position with eight games lost. They share it with Santa Ana. Cojute are looking forward to face league's second-placed Santa Tecla at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Fantasmas will play against the league's leader San Salvador (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
Fifth ranked Aguila (8-5) crushed at home 8th ranked Santiagueno (5-9) by 56 points 111-55, which is the biggest margin this round. Cuban Lisvan Valdez (196-1988) nailed 20 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winning side and Jose Araujo accounted for 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 24 rebounds for Santiagueno in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Aguila maintains fifth place with 8-5 record. Santiagueno at the other side keeps the eighth position with nine games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 17: Brujos won against Chalchuapa on the opponent's court 76-72. Santa Tecla outscored Santa Ana in a home game 101-53. Nejapa was rolled over Metapan on the road 92-67.



Chalchuapa - Brujos 72-76

Very expected game when 11th ranked Chalchuapa (1-12) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Brujos (9-5) 76-72. Brujos dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 30. They outrebounded Chalchuapa 82-33 including a 35-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Center Teodoro Romero (202-1985) nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points and 31 rebounds for the winning side and Maxwel Mendoza accounted for 25 points and 19 rebounds. Four Brujos players scored in double figures. Puerto Rican point guard Ryann Abraham (182-1987, college: App State) came up with 34 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists and Mario Gonzalez (183-1994) added 7 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Chalchuapa in the defeat. Brujos maintains fourth place with 9-5 record. Chalchuapa lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Brujos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Chalchuapa will play on the road against Nejapa (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Santa Tecla - Santa Ana 101-53

Very predictable result when second ranked Santa Tecla (12-2) smashed at home 7th ranked Santa Ana (5-8) 101-53. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 84 of its points in the paint compared to Santa Ana's 24. Santa Tecla forced 33 Santa Ana turnovers and outrebounded them 42-18 including a 15-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Santa Ana's players. Colombian Michaell Jackson (190-1987) nailed 15 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists for the winning side and Dominican guard Jose Liriano (189-1998) accounted for 22 points and 5 rebounds. Four Santa Tecla players scored in double figures. American guard E.J. Blackwell (193, college: Lourdes) came up with 16 points and Guatemalan point guard David Vasquez (-1992, college: Umpqua CC) added 11 points respectively for Santa Ana in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Santa Tecla have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place with 12-2 record having just one point less than leader San Salvador. Santa Ana lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. They share it with Fantasmas. Santa Tecla will play against Cojute (#10) in Cojutepeque in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Santa Ana will have a break next round.

Not a big story in a game when 9th ranked Nejapa (3-10) was rolled over on the road by third ranked Metapan (11-3) 92-67. Metapan dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Nejapa's 42. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Nejapa's players. Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-1994) nailed a double-double by scoring 25 points and 20 rebounds for the winning side and Venezuelan point guard Edwin Mijares (186-1992) accounted for 17 points and 8 assists. Metapan's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American Marcus Faison (196-1994, college: Salem St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import forward Telvin Gabriel (198-1994, college: Lander) added 20 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Nejapa in the defeat. Metapan maintains third place with 11-3 record behind leader San Salvador. Nejapa lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with ten games lost. Metapan will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Nejapa will play at home against Chalchuapa (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
